Back to North Weald again for another 7Oaks MC Autosolo, running the usual format of 4 tests during the day, these are a good fun day out.
A couple of days before I managed to get a set of free tyres from a friend (thanks Tom Ward) so I would be using 'Freebe' tyres all round on this event :)
The first runs started off well, apart from me having a few issues getting the FlipCam to work, but I soon worked that out. So I now have lots of video's to process in the evenings this week. I will post on here when they are uploaded to YouTube.
However it soon became clear that it was going to be a tight day with a Mini being very well driven and just quicker than me on the tight and twisty tests. By lunch time he had about a second lead (for class honours) over me. I thought at this point that the class win was going to ebb away and 2nd would be the best I could hope for. However the afternoon tests were a bit more open and flowing and better matched me and the car. Apart from a few almost moments when a bit too much bravery caused a few issues these went a lot better, and certainly got the adrenaline flowing :)
I obviously got the Mini driver worried with the improved turn of speed as he came over after one test to try and find out where I had found my speed....
He then swopped to some (List 1a legal) Yoko A008's in a bid to try and make back the time, but it wasn't to be. In the end I took the class win by about 3 seconds and finished 14th overall, beating BMW 330's, Porches and Clio Cup Cars - proving its not all about power and tyres.
Suze was also out competing in the Micra and finished a secure 4th in class and 35th overall, beating many more powerful and better 'tyred' cars in the process.
